Number 300!

Well I got it, number 300 I picked this one up at GCZCZN St. Lukes Anglican Church, I had tryed to get this cache over one year ago and came up with nothing. However Victoree and BeFri wanted share there milestones so we all did this cache together. I came out with 300, Victoree came out 100, and Befri came out with 50. The cache was a puzzle cache located at another graveyard, it seems that I have been doing alot of these puzzle caches as of late! Oh well they are always good fun!



IN OTHER NEWS

Today I was planning some of my future events I plan to attend and I just wanted to get the word out on some of these. Some local and some with a bit of travel involved with.

GC24MN1 Breakfast at Kay's April 2010, and it will be held on the 18th. This event is particlarly fun to attend, they are every month and hosted by kfdcanada. So if you do plan to attend make sure you bring cash, no not cache, cash becuase Kay's does not take debit or credit, but trust me it is well worth it, the foon is quite good!

GC1P585 Maritime Geobash 2010, and this event will held on the 10th of July. This event will be held at the Municipal Actvity and Recreation Complex (MARC) in Dayspring, Nova Scotia. It is hoping to be the first Mega Event in the maritimes, however it is not listed as that yet but they are still looking for more people to get it over the 500 mark. The day is packed full of events, it should be a good time.

GC24GFZ Bye Bye Winter CITO, will be held in the city of Fredericton on the 10th of April. The event should be fun, and good for the city of Fredericton. However I wont be able to attend this cache now that I have a cadet event that weekend.

GC1MGE2 COG Spring Fling 6, will be held in the Tiffin Conservation Area just out side Barrie Ontario. This event will be held on June 12th, and is also planned with lots of activities, the conservation area is also full of all sorts of geocaches, and you can also pick up alot of geocaches icons, so with in the weekend you can pick up a Mega Event, Event, CITO, Traditional, Multi, and a Letter Box Hybrid! Lots of fun!

GC24HFF SF6CITOcronulator 2010 will be held after the COG Spring Fling 6 on the 13th of July. It is designed to clean up after the huge event.

A Very Quick 8

So after I had dropped off Victoree and picked up BeFri we were off to the Old Quaco Road Micro Series, I was here yesterday to pick up a quick 10. The goal was to get me 299 and BeFri to 49. So we headed out, I let befri drive since she had just got her second level of her permit, and I though what the heck its not my car! So Befri did not know where we were going, so I told her to go to the Airport, and from there I would direct her to which road to take. Once we hit the road it was one quick cache after the other. Until we came upon two geocaches that offered some very nice views.

GC15JX2 Ratcliffe Falls and GC16Z57 Downstream From Quaco Falls, now I really do not know the real names for these amazing falls but I really do not care becuase how amazing they are! You could here them roaring from the road, and all the way from the last cache we picked up before heading home. They could be heard from all over!

Puzzle, Then Another

Well today was a big day, today I was going to hit 300 my mother Victoree was going to hit 100 and my sister BeFri was hitting 50! So we had to plan our days around these events. At the start of the day Victoree needed 2 more caches, I needed 9 and Befri 8. So first we needed to knock off Victoree's 2. So we decided we would do two puzzle caches located in Barsa a section of Rothesay.

The first one was GC1KFJ9 What?? Yu Dunt Spikka Da Lingwidge?? It was a puzzle cache where you needed to do all the work on your computer before you left to grab this one, so at least before we headed out we knew where it was! So we headed in from the Dolan Rd, so we came to the entrance of the power field only to find the road had been blocked by some large rocks, but this did not stop us, we took a look over to the ATV trail and I said "I can drive up there!" so with Victoree being very worried we drove up to the ATV trail and under a power line tower and into the power field and we drove back onto the road and we were off. We continued down the road which eventually turned into a very rugged dirt road, and we approached a large hill, not large as in HUGE, but could be a challenge for a Toyota Echo so we drove up a bit to see what the other side looked like, and we approached the top and I said "Nope we need to walk from here" so I slowed back down the hill and parked the car to the side of the trail. We jumped out of the car and headed up the small hill now for a walker. We continued down the trail and we eventually came to the point where the GPSr pointed right into the woods, so we trekked into the brush. Victoree was a bit slower to get in but I had plowed through to find the cache, I was looking at the GPSr screen and it kept on pointing forward so I kept on going looking all over the cache. Next thing you know I here Victoree say "Here it is" I turn around and there she was holding the very unique cache, I walked right past it and di not give it a second glance!

So once we had signed the log we headed out and back to the car, once we jumped in we were off to the next cache, and back out of the power field and under the power line tower.

So the next cache we were after took us to another graveyard cache, GC102XD The Bag Lady ws here, this cache took us to Saint Patricks Chatholic Church in Barsa. So originally we thought this would be nice and easy since it was a graveyard cache, however this did not prove to be true! So we decided that we would start from one side of the yard and move to the other side. Once we had searched the entire yard we came up short by 2 numbers needed for the equation. So we decided we would do another sweep from side to side, although it took some more time we eventually came up with the last two numbers. We checked the checksums and we were good to go, we punched the numbers into the GPSr and we were off. The GPSr took us to a small gated road that was at the far end of the yard, so we ducked under the gate and kept on walking, we only had 200 more feet to go and we walked by some dumped trash, tires, stollers and couches, so we could not CITO it. At the trail we were about 40 feet away from the cache and we headed into the woods, and after a few minutes we had located the cache, Victoree was at 99, and I need 9 more to be at 299.

So we were all very excited that she had reached 99, now we needed to head back home pick up BeFri and drop off Victoree, and head out to pick up a few more caches.

A Quick Ten

So I decided to head out after we all had gotten home and head out myself to collect a few along a local power trail. Now I know this power trail is not as bad as some, most are one cache very 523 feet or what ever the minimum required distance, this was more like one every .3 of a mile so not as bad. So I decided to get as many as I could before Easter supper, so they were all micros located off a dirt road that would take you to St. Martins. I only got ten in the small amount of time I had but thats okay I'm now at 289 and closing in on 300 hundred, so I am hoping for that tomorrow when Victoree hits 100 and BeFri hits 50! We hope to do them all on the same cache!

Off to The All Saints

So after the grand adventure through the Upland Forest we decided to head over to the Kingston Penninsula for a puzzle cache. GC1E05 All Saints Anglican Church is located in Clifton Royal and has an amazing view of the Kennebecasis River and the Towns of Rothesay and Quispamsis.

Once we had foud the church it was off into the graveyard, we decided it would be best to leave the GeoDogs in the GEOECHO, the GEOECHO is Victoree's car that can be tracked like any TB. So we knew we had to find six stones to get the six missing numbers. In the process of looking for the stones we came across the stone of my Great Great Uncle Alex, I had never been here to see him and it was great to see him for the first time in almost two years. Eventually we gathered all the clues and had found the cache, and the next thing you know we were off back to the ferry to head home.

To the Dog Park... Nope I Guess Not

So today me and my family decided to go to the local dog park in Quispamsis, and pick up a few caches along the dog trail. The park was just recently built and is really well put together. Two sections one for dogs under 30 lbs and one for dogs over 30 lbs. However there are really no dogs ever in the small dogs pen, so all the dogs just end up in the big dog pen!

So once our GeoDogs had enough fun in the dog pen we decided to head out on the trail, so the first cache on the list was GC217B2 No Cats Allowed, but we came to a fork in the trail and BeFri said "lets go this way!" so we did and we headed under the Vincent Rd in a huge tube and ended up in the Upland Forest and that was the first cache we found GCRC33 Upland Forest! We ran into a fellow dog walker and our two poodles sniffed this huge golden retreiver while it stood like a statue, as though it was petrified of our two little poodles, it was a sight to see! So we pressed on to find the first cache! Victoree left a Travel Bug she had picked up a while ago, and Befri picked up a Geocoin.

We kept on walking through the woods and found that it was full of small brooks with bridges all over the place to cross them. It was a very beutiful day to be going on a walk through the woods, it was not to warm or to cold just right!

So we headed to the next cache was GC21JQW micro for tay-ace, this is the first cache in a small series of caches hidden by a proud father for his daughters. My one concern about this cache was it was a micro... now I know its only a micro but its in the woods! I dont like them, but hey it could be on a trail sign and bench, or on one of the many bridges! Nope, none of those, it is really in the middle of the woods hung in a tree! So we all ended up ina field and the arrow was pointing down in to a small valley with one of the many brooks at the bottom. So BeFri and Victoree stayed back with the GeoDogs and I trekked down! It took me about ten minutes to locate it but I finally got it, signed the log and headed back out of the valley!

So we walked toward the entrance of the Gondola Rec. Centre where there was another geocache located so we knew we had to get it since we where down here. This geocache is GC1TP7H Gondola Point Rec, Centre Cache and it was of course another micro... but this one is not as bad since it was right along a trail not in the woods! So after only a few minutes of searching we had found it. From there we had to figure out where we wanted to go. So we headed back out off the trail to the parking lot to check out the trail directory. So we figured out our trail and headed back in. We kept on walking and walking, and we eventually ran into a road, then we knew we had walked to far, we were suppose to break off on a side trail and head back up to the dog park. So we did a 180 and headed back, but we could not believe we missed a trail, not just a random trail one that was marked on the directory! So we were looking extra hard. So we finally found it, since some construction was going on they had put hay bails up and so we had missed it, so we found it and headed up that trail. Along this trail we had a good view of the on going process of the qplex. So far I can not say it is coming along well, it has been in the building stages for some time now and it is barley a metal frame standing, and the pollution! Do not get me started on the pollution.

This is only one phot of about fifteen, and I have notified the Town of Quispamsis of this, and hope this issue is resolved soon. So forward we kept on going, one more cache today in the Upland Forest and this one was the last of the series of caches named after a cachers daughters, who I might add are geocachers as well incase I forgot to mention before. GC21JQ3 Micro for kat-ace, and just like the first cache of the series this was a micro in the woods! After a few minutes of looking we had found it, Victoree was shocked that she had not seen it since she was standing only a few feet from it just seconds before!

So we finally headed out of the Upland Forest and back to the dog park and we jumped back into the car and we were off. We did not know if we would hit up one more cache to make it five for the day, but if we did I will blog about it!

The Heart of Oak Series: # 9-13 and RIP Smerrill

Today myself and my friend Tim who now signed up on geocaching.com as NavyCIC headed out to place the next five of The Heart of Oak Series caches in celebration of the Canadian Naval Centennial! Today I placed number 9 through 13 the last of the Halifax Class that were built here in the Port City!

So the first one I placed was number 11 which is HMCS CHARLOTTETOWN and I placed this one in Rothesay off of the Tennis Court Rd. This one is a very easy cache, should be a park and grab. This cache will do nothing but take you to a part of Rothesay you may have never been to unless you play tennis, take a look around at some of the beutiful houses.

Next cache was number 12 which is HMCS ST. JOHNS and I placed this cache again in Rothesay, but this cache should be another park with a bit of a walk into the Carpenters Nature Trail. This should also be a cache done before the two already located along the trail McHail's Toybox and Stroll the Shores of Carpenters Pond. Also it can be an easy one done for anyone who is caching along a route.



The next hide was number 13 HMCS OTTAWA, so we headed into Saint John to hide this one. This cache is located in an area very low in geocaches, although it is a huge peice of land that is not developed and is open to the public. I do plan on building this area up as it does have some very nice trails and views!



On our way to place the next cache we stopped by Cedar Hill Cemetary and went to the rear to see if there was any good locations in the back, but what we did find was a cache placed in memory of Smerrill, so we thought oh well if we cant place the cache at least we can do is find the cache and pay our respects.



The next cache we went to place was number 9, kind of odd I did them all out of order, but is some kind of order but this cache is HMCS FREDERICTON. So we headed out to the west side of Saint John, so you can pick this cache up on your way to our provincial capital. We found this location becuase NavyCIC was looking at some waterfront property in the area.



Finally the last cache took us all the way from the far west of Saint John to the far east! This cache is number 10 named after HMCS WINNIPEG. It is located behind the Bradley Lake Community Centre up in the hills. The cache is a nice and easy one to get to, but the terrain may be the hard part! This geocasche was the last one placed for the day, I hope they get published soon becuase I love to keep and eye on my email to see who gets the FTF and if they can get all five seeing as they are spread all over the Saint John area!

Last Stop Before Home!

So I was on my home and I was driving by the local Irving, and I remembered that there was a geocache I had kept on looking for, but never found becuase every time I went to look for it I never had a GPSr, well this time I had one!

GCZKYE SJ to Moncton Geo-Post Office, is located behind the Dolan rd off the Mackay Highway. This geocache is designed to be a post office in a series of other Geo-Post Offices, and is used to help move postcards between these caches.



The cache was a very easy find once I had a GPSr. The cache is an ammo box in a tree, and is spray painted green to cover up all the military markings. So nice and easy and made it number five for the day!

Biking in Rockwood Park

Today I headed out to Rockwood Park for a little bit of biking and some Geocaching. Rockwood Park is located in the heart of Saint John and has amazing views of the entire city! Today I grabbed four caches out in the park the first being...


GC24XYA Climb the Hill, well the cache name does not lie, it was a climb for sure! I came speeding down the trail and came to a stop and checked the GPSr, all I needed to do was hide the bike on the side of the trail and start the trek up. I got with in a few feet of the cache and started looking around. I found the cache well hid under a tree. So I grabbed the cache signed the log and dropped the City of Eugene Geocoin, and scurried down the hill back to the bike! Next cache I headed to was a cache I tryed to get before but could not find it...


GC1XJ20 SS#2 Keychain Cache was a very tricky cache, I pulled over to the side of the trail and checked the GPSr it was pointing 400 feet directly into the woods, so I hid the bike and trekked into the woods, only a few feet into the woods the arrow did a 180 and was pointing across the path into some more woods, I knew this could not be right so I kept on walking, the arrow turned around and started to point off to the left. So I followed it, further and further into the woods. I finally came with in twenty feet of the cache, now it was time to start looking. I searched high and low for this cache, I turned up nothing! I whipped out the iPhone to check for a hint... no hint! So I checked recent logs, yes ynds a fellow Saint John cacher had left a hint. I quickly found the cache a little bit further away but I got it, the updated coords were much better than last times, but not the best! So I looked down the hill to the trail, there was a few hikers hiking by, so I scurried down to the trail, only to find that I had ventured much farther from the bike than expected! 400 feet turned into 1000 feet!



So I ran all the way down the hill grabbed my bike and biked back up the hill! Darn GPSr making me do more work than I had to! Oh well the next geocache I went and found was much easier...


GC24YVV Visitors Welcome, was a nice easy cache on Lily Lake just a few feet off a path! I approached this cache not from Lily Lake but from a small biking trail that was up on top of a cliff over looking the lake.



It was such a nice view of the lake and the cache was very easy to find and log! From there I headed out to the last cache in Rockwood Park, so I headed to the car to put the bike back on the car, beucase to get this cache I needed to leave the park and enter through another way!

GCNXK5 Overlook the Ball Field, so I headed up through some walking path tube into Rockwood Park. To find a massive waterfall.



I walked over the small bridge and further up the trail to reveal more and more of a view! Once I hit a certian point in the trail the GPSr was pointing up a hill, so I turned up and started walking up the hill, the hill was full of trash, but I forgot a garbage bag to CITO. I finally found the cache, and this cache has aged a bit, I was one hundred and first finder for this cache, but the cache did offer a beutiful view of the city.



So after finding the cache I headed back down to the trail and filmed this little bit of video for you guys to see!



So after this cache my trip to Rockwood Park was over and I was heading home!

Geocaching in a picture!

So today we were at DQ getting some Treatzza Pizza for after supper, and what did we find a nice picture of the Smithtown Covered Bridge, and I said "Wow there is a geocache right there!" my friend Matt however was very unimpressed, but I thought it was pretty cool.



I dont think i can claim finding this cache twice, but I did find it at the DQ in Rothesay!

Getting Down and Dirty at Meenans Cove

Well yet again me and my friend Tim headed out today for a few quick caches, today we headed to Meenans Cove. Meenans Cove is a nice little park located in the Town of Quispamsis. It is the location of a very nice beach house, baseball field, playground, walking trails, and a United Nations Peacekeepers Memorial. The park has a very nice beach with a very nice view of the Kennabacasis river.

So the business at hand, we hunted down two geocaches located with in only a thousand feet of each other.

The first one we went after was



GC1FYJ9 Meenans Cove Beach Nano is locasted at the lower half of the park at the boat ramp, this cache as you can tell by the name was a nano. We showed up quicky grabbed the cache and jumped back in the truck, but of course we forgot a writing stick! So we thought wait we can go find the next one and hope it has one! So we journyed on to the next.

GCGPTW Meenans Cove Beach, well this is where we got a little dirty...



This is what we walked up to, I was wearing some hinking sandals, while Tim on the other hand was wearing "Jesus" sandals or burkinstocks, he said he was not getting dirty so I decided to journey in, next thing I know he jumps on my back. So with an extra 180 lbs on my back I continue on, just a few feet away from the hard soil I sank into my knees in mud... Tim however jumped off my back onto the solid ground, so while he laughed I pointed to the cache and he went and grabbed it. I pulled my feet out of the suction of the mud and revealed this...



So we opened the cache and luckly it had a pencil, so we signed both logs, and placed the cache back and found a nice little path out of the mud, you always find the easy way after you found the cache! Tim went back to the truck and drove back to the other cache location, while I washed off in the river and ran back to the truck and hid the nano and jumped back in the truck and we went home!

My First Post!

Well I'm just giving this blogging thing a try and see how it goes! So I decided to blog about some thing I enjoy immensely, Geocaching!

Well today I went out Geocaching with my friend Tim and his new truck, his truck is a red Toyota Tacoma, and its SWEET! Well today we journeyed down the Downeast Rd. in Quispamsis to collect two Geocaches that have been published not so long ago.

This geocache is located near the new Town of Quispamsis sign along the Makay Highway. I really do not understand the new signs and what they symbolize, it looks like to mountains, but the last time I checked there are no mountains located in Quispamsis... Oh well it does have that new modern look, and I geuss that is what they were shooting for!
